No matter which story you believe, the margarita is here to stay. This margarita recipe, featuring ruby red grapefruit juice and colored salt or sugar is a colorful and tasty spin on what may or may not be an American classic.

Pink grapefruit margaritas recipe

Yield: 4

Ingredients:

• 1/2 large lime, cut in wedges
• 2 teaspoons kosher salt or super-fine sugar
• 2 to 4 drops red food coloring
• 1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
• Juice of four limes (or 1/2 cup bottled lime juice)
• 1 cup orange liqueur
• 5 shots white tequila
• Ice

Directions:

1. Place the salt or sugar in a small sandwich or snack bag. Add two drops of food coloring, close the baggie and shake. You can darken the salt or sugar by adding extra food coloring until you get the desired color.
2. Pour the salt or sugar on a small plate.
3. Rub the edge of four rocks or margarita glasses with a wedge of lime, and then roll through the salt or sugar to rim the glasses. Fill each glass to the rim with ice.
4. Mix the remaining ingredients in a medium-sized pitcher or carafe and stir.
5. Pour the margarita mixture over the ice and serve.
6. If desired, garnish the glasses with lime.

Samsung Galaxy Note to get Android 4.0 upgrade in Q2 2012

The 5.3 inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone is arguably the biggest smartphone ever made. In February, the company announced the 10.1 inch version of the Galaxy Note, a true tablet product. Now Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Note, which is currently running on Android 2.3, will be getting a big software update later this year.

In a press release today, Samsung announced that it will offer what it is calling a "Premium Suite upgrade" for all Galaxy Note owners worldwide. The upgrade, which will happen sometime in the second quarter of 2012, will include what Galaxy Note users have been waiting on; an update to the new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system.

The Premium Suite upgrade will also add new apps made especially for the Galaxy Note's S-Pen stylus. They include S Note, which will allow users to "combine your notes or sketches with other digital content, giving you a new way to create your own stories." Yet another software addition is My Store which will let users create their own custom digital cards. Those cards can include hand written notes, videos, texts, picture and more.

The software update will also have something special for fans of the Angry Birds game series. It will contain a free and exclusive level for the just released game Angry Birds Space. A 30 level "Danger Zone" challenge pack for the game will be made available for free to Galaxy Note users if the software update is unpacked in its first three month period.

Stocks lower on worries over China slowdown

NEW YORK (AP) ? Signs that China's economy is weakening and Europe is slowing sent U.S. stocks lower.

The price of crude oil dropped 2 percent Thursday to its lowest level in a week. That hurt oil stocks: Alpha Natural Resources, Consol Energy, and Noble Energy each fell 4 percent.

The disconcerting economic news from overseas overshadowed other reports that suggested the U.S. economy is gaining momentum.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 78.48 points, or 0.6 percent, at 13,046.14.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 10.11, or 0.7 percent, at 1,392.78, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 12 points, or 0.4 percent to 3,063.32.

Eight out of 10 sectors declined in the S&P 500, led by energy and materials as investors worried about a drop in global demand for oil and raw materials.

China has released a string of worrisome economic reports recently. The latest, on Thursday, signaled that its manufacturing sector could be contracting. A manufacturing index compiled by HSBC fell to 48.1 in March from 49.6 in February. Figures below 50 indicate that manufacturing is contracting.

That's a negative sign because growth in China has played a key role in shoring up the global economy since the financial crisis of 2008.

China is also the world's largest consumer of raw materials, so a slowdown there would affect those companies. US Steel Corp. tumbled 5.82 percent, and copper wire and bar manufacturer Freeport-McMoRan Copper Gold Inc. lost 3.7 percent.

It didn't help that another survey in Europe also pointed to slower growth. The purchasing managers' index from Markit, a financial information company, fell to a below-forecast 48.8 points in March from 49.3 a month earlier. The index combines both the services and manufacturing sectors in Europe.

Those signs of a deceleration in key global markets dwarfed the latest positive news on the U.S. economy. The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell 5,000 to a four-year low last week, bolstering the view that the job market is strengthening. A measure of future U.S. economic activity, the Conference Board's index of leading economic indicators, rose 0.7 percent in February for the fifth straight month, more evidence that the economy is gaining momentum.

The poor economic news from abroad also hurt FedEx Corp.'s stock, which fell 4 percent. Chief financial officer Alan Graf said the current global economic environment and higher fuel prices are driving more customers to "trade down" or choose slower methods of shipping to save money, just like they did during the recession. Investors decided to focus on his comments, rather than the company's stellar performance. FedEx's quarterly profit more than doubled between December and February after it shipped more packages and charged higher prices.

While news out of China has been bad for global company stocks, it may provide some relief to consumers with oil prices falling. Gasoline has risen 59 cents per gallon since Jan. 1 and the average price nationwide is above $4 in at least eight states, plus the District of Columbia.

It was a good day for IPOs. Payment processor Vantiv Inc. soared 14.7 percent in its first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange, while email marketer ExactTarget Inc. rocketed up 32 percent on its first day of trading.

In other corporate news:

? Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. jumped 3.8 percent on reports the generic drugmaker is in talks to buy European counterpart Actavis for about $7 billion.

? Discover Financial Services stock rose 2.7 percent, a day after it reported a 36 percent jump in its first-quarter profit. Customers used its credit card more and racked up higher balances but also improved their payment habits.

? Diamond Foods Inc. declined 7.2 percent after the maker of Emerald nuts and other snacks said it is suspending dividend payments to stockholders because of a new credit agreement.

PFT: 10 things to? know about Tebow, Jets

Much can be said about the trade that sent Tim Tebow from the Broncos to, of all teams, the New York Jets.? Actually, much already has been said.? And much more will be said.

And much will continue to be said for as long as Tebow is a member of the team.

So why not say some stuff about it right now?? I thought about coming up with 18 takes in honor of Frank Tripucka, but it?s late and I?m tired and if I start doing 18 takes for one thing then I need to do 18 takes for everything because I?m weird that way.? Actually, I?m weird in a lot of ways.

But not nearly as weird as the trade that sent Tim Tebow from the Broncos to, of all teams, the New York Jets.

1.? How?s this for a sense of urgency, Mark?

The Jets know that Mark Sanchez can, in the right situation, perform at a high level.? After all, he won four road playoff games in his first two NFL seasons.? But they can?t duplicate that sense of urgency during the regular season.

What better way to light a fire under his rear end than to bring the hottest name in the NFL to the Big Apple?

The Jets can claim that Tebow is the backup, and for now he is.? But once Sanchez starts throwing interceptions, the chants of ?Tebow? at MetLife Stadium will be so loud that they?ll hear them all the way back in Denver.

So it?s Sanchez?s job to lose.? And plenty of people fully expect him to eventually lose it.

2.? Introducing the T-Bone Offense.

Until Tebow becomes the full-time quarterback, he?ll be used in a version of the Wildcat package based on the things that worked best for him in Denver last year ? the read-option, the traditional option, and the unexpected fake handoff followed by a long pass to a receiver sprinting down the field in single coverage because nine guys are at the line of scrimmage trying to stop the run.

While Sanchez will be the starter and Tebow will be the backup, the T-Bone Offense will be the offense Tebow runs whenever he?s on the field ? whether it?s a surprise change of pace or Sanchez is injured or Sanchez is ineffective or it?s not a surprise change of pace after all but a regular appearance.

The starter is the guy who takes the field on the first offensive play of the game.? So while Sanchez will (for now) have that role, Tebow will be used as much as the coaching staff chooses ? and if he?s as effective for the Jets as he was against the Jets and against offensive coordinator Tony Sparano?s Dolphins last year, we may see Tebow far more often than we ever saw Brad Smith, even if Tebow technically is the backup.

3.? Somewhere, Bill Belichick is smiling.

Everything the Jets do seems to be motivated by a desire to one-up the Patriots in their own division or the Giants in their own backyard.? In this case, New England coach Bill Belichick has to be hoping that Tebow will become the starter before the first time the Pats and Jets play in 2012.

Last year, Belichick outscored Tebow?s Broncos 86-33.? And so it?s fair to say that Belichick, even with an undermanned defense in 2012, has figured out how to stop Tebow.

Count on Belichick doing more of the same in 2012.

4.? Jets barely avoid disaster.

Castrillon put the Rapids ahead 1-0 in the 56th minute when he corralled a loose ball in front of the net and tapped the ball past Philadelphia goalkeeper Zac MacMath.

Omar Cummings, who picked up an assist, sent the crossing pass toward MacMath, but the ball slipped through his fingers.

To clarify the difference between influence and plagiarism I will quote Murray Tinkelman. ?It's inspiration when you steal ideas from other artists. It is plagiarism when you steal ideas from me.? So here it is (This is version 3.0).

1. Art (meaning the visual arts: Fine Art, Illustration, Photography, Graphic Design, Animation, Architecture, but this applies to theater, music, poetry, literature etc.) is inherently interesting and every variation of the visual arts is worth studying.

2. The culture that surrounds art and art creation is inherently interesting and worth studying.

3. ?Every art piece should be approached as free from as many preconceptions as possible; any given work should stand or fall on its own merits, or lack thereof.? (You cannot judge the quality the art by the morals of the artist.)

4. Even a genius has a bad day.

5. It?s ok to have fun at Art?s expense, but in the end you need to respect the Art and to a certain degree the artist. As Harry Anderson said, ?If you can?t laugh at your self, you haven?t seen yourself sleep.?

6. Art is not dead. He moved to Reno.

7. Don't like a work of art just because everyone else likes it. Find a reason to like what you like.

8. ?Every individual has their own preferences and, while a critical eye can be used to critique any given work, there are good odds that there will always be somebody who appreciates it and someone that does not.?

9. Critical analysis of art should not include personal attacks or judgments against their creator(s).

10. The enjoyment of art increases with the understanding of art.

11. Lend whatever support you can to those creators whose work you do appreciate and enjoy, even if it's only to tell other people about the quality of work they're doing. (Shameless plug to hire me to illustrate and or buy stuff I illustrate)

12. It has been said ?Don't argue with idiots.? I would actually say, don?t argue period. Once you raise your voice people stop listening. Have your opinions, but listen to others no matter how strong you feel. But remember I am right.

13. There is no rule 13. I wanted to be able to get to 25 it?s a nice odd number?not as nice as a googolplex?but I really don?t have time to write a googolplex of items about why art is great and you would probably not want to read a list that is that went on much longer than 25. Unfortunately I was only able to reach 20 at this point. I am still working on the last five.

14. A critic?s evaluation of an art piece says more about the critic than the actual work.

15. You need to see the actual work of art.

16. You can?t come to an opinion of an art piece by looking at it for a few seconds or minutes. You need to spend time with it. Become it?s friend-then you can hate it.

17. All art is connected. The key to really understanding and appreciating art is to understand as much of art as a whole as possible -- that means studying the history of the medium and its creators; influential works and cultural references both within and outside art; the creation, production and distribution processes; contemporaneous as well as current reactions to works; etc.

18. Read The Art Spirit by Robert Henri and How to Understand Comics by Scott Mcloud. These are must-reads.

19. I understand that many of these contradict one another. I am ok with that and I firmly believe that it still works despite the contradictions. To my knowledge the paradox I have set up has not created a cataclysmic celestial event that will bring about the end of the world as we know it. That was Wal-Mart with the paradox of getting more for less. For that matter it probably wasn?t Wal-Mart that came up with it, but they have promoted it well? but I digress.

20. Art is connected to everything we see and do. It has influenced science, music, literature, films, theater, sports, entertainment everything. All things can relate back to a discussion of art.

Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack died at his home?in Dubois, Wy., Monday at the age of 65. He had been battling cancer for some time and succumbed to complications of the disease with his family at his side.

Hossack was a member of the Doobie Brothers between 1971 and 1973, playing on several of the band's best-known hits, including "Jesus Is Just Alright," "Listen to the Music" and "China Grove." Hossack returned to the band when they reunited in 1987 and was a mainstay of the group through the next two decades, performing on most of the group's tours until he took a health leave in 2010.

The Doobie Brothers released a statement on Hossack in January, saying he was improving slowly. In 2010, Hossack wrote a message to his fans explaining that while "it's been hard not touring with the band," he had "incredible support" from his family, friends and the Doobie Brothers.

Volkswagen says technology costs to limit profits in 2012

WOLFSBURG, Germany (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG's pursuit of record profits may take a breather this year as Europe's largest car maker invests in a technology overhaul.

VW has a goal of matching last year's record 11.3 billion euros ($14.8 billion) in operating profit in 2012 before aiming for another increase in 2013, the company said in its annual report published on Monday. Revenue may beat last year's 159.3 billion euros in 2012 and 2013.

"We need to recoup our substantial development and start-up costs," Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn said at a press conference in VW's hometown Wolfsburg. Efforts which started in 2012 to expand parts-sharing across VW's range of small and mid-sized vehicles may yield "substantial savings" over the longer term, he said.

VW estimates its parts sharing across brands including luxury division Audi and Czech unit Skoda may cut production costs by 20 percent and assembly times by 30 percent - part of its ambition of becoming the world's biggest auto manufacturer no later than 2018.

Continued growth of car markets in Asia, the United States, Latin America and Russia may help VW to increase group deliveries this year beyond the record 8.3 million cars achieved in 2011. The company plans to roll out more than 40 new models or updated vehicles in 2012, according to Winterkorn.

VW said last month fourth-quarter operating profit slipped nearly 1 percent to 2.29 billion euros. The company plans to increase its dividend by 80 cents to 3 euros per share for common shareholders and 3.06 euros for preferred.

MORE FLEXIBLE

"The unbroken automotive boom is providing an additional tailwind for our growth plans," Winterkorn said on Monday, adding that the global market for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles could exceed 100 million units by 2018.

VW's new compact car production system is more flexible than previous platforms and allows the car maker to build models with different height, width and length. The new architecture is designed for use in as many as 3.5 million small and mid-sized cars including Audi's new A3 compact and the next generation of VW's Golf, the carmaker's best-selling vehicle.

VW said last September that 62.4 billion euros will be spent on factories, vehicles and development as part of its rolling five-year budget. The auto manufacturer hasn't disclosed costs for launching its new compact-car technology, though it admits an impact on earnings.

"It initially entails considerable upfront costs in order to adapt a range of production plants to the new platform," Chief Financial Officer Hans Dieter Poetsch said at the press conference.

VW is still facing hurdles to combining with Porsche SE's automotive operations, Winterkorn said. VW faces having to pay about 1 billion euros in tax if it were to buy the remaining 50.1 percent of Porsche's car-making business before 2014.

The German manufacturer dropped plans for a full merger with Porsche last September after lawsuits against the sports-car manufacturer in the United States and Germany complicated Porsche's valuation.

"All parties involved are continuing to work at full speed on achieving the integrated automotive group with Porsche at conditions that make good economic sense," the CEO said.

VW shares were down 1 percent at 141.45 euros by 1014 GMT, against a 0.4 percent rise in the German DAX index.
